From February 12-14, 2016, the Emerging Leaders of Pakistan fellows convened in Islamabad, Pakistan. Fellows from the 2012-2015 classes travelled from across the country to participate In team building activities, networking sessions, and a public panel with the broader community.
The South Asia Center hosted a panel discussion entitled, “Youth and the Changing Narrative of Pakistan,” showcasing the fellows’ work. Speakers included 2015 Fellows Rafia Farooqui, a social activist and aspiring water-expert from Karachi; Usman Khan, a tech entrepreneur from Peshawar; and Sawai Mal , a minority and youth rights activist from Umerkot. A networking reception and interactive expo of other fellows’ work followed the panel.
Over the course of the weekend, the fellows participated in a strategy and visioning workshop, and several teambuilding sessions including a volunteer tree-planting excursion on an Islamabad hiking trail. The US Embassy in Islamabad also hosted a reception with US Embassy representatives, including the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, the Counselor for Public Affairs, and the Community Engagement team.
